ode
BROTHERS ROBERT AND DAVOR PALOS NAMED THEIR CHICAGO-BASED BAND "ODE" AS A WAY TO MEMORIALIZE THEIR BOSNIAN ROOTS; THE NAME IS TRANSLATED FROM BOSNIAN: "TO LEAVE". LIFE WAS GIVEN IN BOSNIA, BUT RENEWED IN CHICAGO. ODE EMBRACES AMERICAN GRIT IN THEIR SMOLDERING GROOVES AND MOODY ATMOSPHERE WHILE STAYING ROOTED IN THE DEEP EARTH OF BALKAN HISTORY.
PROPELLED BY THE RHYTHM SECTION OF DRUMMER DANIEL CRANE, BASSIST JONATHAN KOLAR AND RHYTHM GUITARIST NIKOLA DOKIC, ODE MANIFESTS A SOARING SPIRIT OF LOVE, LOSS, TRIAL AND TRIUMPH.
“Built on a dark rock foundation, the band’s sound has steady shifts in mood and tone and can veer toward Eastern European/world music territory (“Back In Town”), then get eerily theatrical, proggish and vaguely jazzy (“Hotel Bristol”) as well as upbeat, catchy and riff-heavy (“Let Me In”). On each well-recorded song, the playing is muscular and firm—no nonsense, no flash—and supports the super-strident vocals quite well.”

Ghost Ships and Zodiacs
We sterilized than legalized
A different kind of love
Don’t stare at her With your devil eyes
Touch her with a glove
Mobilize the fisherman
And privatize the village
And across the sea The children weep
Organize the image
Nowhere to hide right here
The world is covered up in fear
When we settle down with ourselves
We’ll break another man in half
Don’t disturb Ol’ money bags
Don’t disburse Their schilling
Sometimes when The sewer leaks
It affects the living
In the dessert we will lie in wait
To reach our destination
Hop on board the Zodiacs
Dream of alienation
